How You Can Achieve More in Less Time

In this blog, I want to share with you some successful time management skills and techniques which you can easily implement in your life to help you get more done in less time.

Create a priority Action List

Firstly, I think it’s very important to work out exactly what you need to do. You may have trouble sleeping at night, as your mind is still subconsciously processing things you’ve done and reminding you about things you’re going to do tomorrow.

So a great exercise, I find, is that before you go to sleep, write down everything you need to do the next day so it’s out of your mind and you can have a good night’s sleep. Top achievers always say having a good night’s sleep is an important factor intheir success.

Once you’ve got your list of to-do items, you must workout the priority order. It’s all too easy to tick off the easier items on the list to make you feel as though you’re making progress and feel good about yourself. But sometimes we can get very easily distracted and ultimately fall behind. So remember to work out what are the 3 most important things you need to do and how much time they will each take to complete.

Time for a New Routine

Another important tip I recommend comes from UPW’s lead trainer, Joseph Mclenlan III. He says “you can gain an extra month’s worth of time, each year simply by waking up an hour earlier than you usually would”. As crazy as it may sound, it actually works! I used to love my sleep (still do!), but I began taking onboard Joseph’s advice and started getting up early. This means I have time to myself, every morning to do what I need/want to do.

I have my own routine where I do some meditation, exercise and try to get into a positive mindset for the day through various forms of media before getting on with the day. This is important because small steps like these prepare you to achieve the goals you set in your priority action list. Now, it doesn’t necessarily have to be in the mornings. You can work on your mindset in the evenings if you have family commitments or even during your morning commute!

“As long as you have the correct mindset, you can more easily tackle what the day’s challenges may bring.”

Time for a New Routine

In your diary, you need to schedule in time to do the things you’ve highlighted in your priority action list. One suggestion would be to have “focused time”. This means cutting out all possible distractions such as your phone and become laser-focused on the one most important thing that you need to do. Don’t try doing lots of things, just do the most important task and keep going until it is done. This is about having the commitment and focus. FOCUS means “Follow One Course Until Successful”. This is what differentiates the truly successful people, from the people who never quite get there, because they’re not focused on their goals and don’t know what to do.

So, make a list of what you want to do, prioritise that list and then give yourself the focused time to complete your tasks. Follow these steps, and you will easily achieve more in one working day that most other people will.

Get a Coach or Mentor

Another thing you could do is get a coach or mentor who can guide you in the right direction and bounce ideas off. Coaches can also hold you to account and make sure you keep on top of your action plan and your priority action list. They can help you plan for your short and long term goals.

Every 3 months, I spend one day planning my next 90 days, where I map out what I want to achieve, identify my most important goals and then break them down into weekly, monthly and daily tasks. This gives me a clear vision of what I need to do before the next session. As I have many more things I want to do and achieve, this allows me to be more efficient with my work whilst still having enough time for my family and friends.

Remember to Relax

Another important tip, is to make sure you have downtime to relax and take care of yourself both physically and mentally. This is critical. You can’t keep going all the time, so it’s important to take a step back to help yourself and recharge.

It could be as simple as having a “free day” which is simply a day where you do no work at all and just give yourself a chance to relax and enjoy yourself stress-free. They’re hard to do initially, but I find them incredibly rewarding the more I do them, and I encourage you to think about doing this as well.
